Lawsuit--Think they will win?

Hey All,

Thought I’d post a thread about "funniest or oddest" lawsuit claims. We’ve all heard at one time or another, how far someone would go to earn an extra buck or two. So, here’s your chance to post them up, so we can all have a good laugh.

Here’s your first

Apple Sued over iPod Hearing Loss
An iPod owner who says he suffered hearing loss as a result of the device filed a lawsuit against Apple in federal court earlier this week, and is seeking class action status. However, experts say the effort has little chance of success (who seems to think he’ll actually win?)
According to the suit, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court in San Jose, iPods are "inherently defective in design and are not sufficiently adorned with adequate warnings regarding the likelihood of hearing loss." It asks the court to order Apple to pay compensation and make upgrades to the device to make it safer. Gonna sue Microsoft for not making an idiot proof OS, cos of the many clean installs I've had to do for messing up XP

Actually...Microsoft DID produce an idiot=proof OS....

Trouble was.....someone produced a better class of idiot....

There's always a better class of idiot.

As far as fubar lawsuits.. there's the guy in prison who sued himself for 1,000,000 dollars for injuries he caused himself while trying to kill someone... then wanted the government to pay the million bucks because they should be responsible for his legal debts, since being in prison prevented him from getting a job, thus netting him 1,000,000 dollars. He lost, of course.

My point was that with a little imagination, anyone (idiots included) can come up with an idea for a lawsuit....and there'll be a guttersnipe lawyer somewhere who'll take up the cause in pursuit of a fast (unearnt) buck. Ill gotten gain....(a saying I picked up from watching 'Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.'on TV years ago).

someone produced a better class of idiot....

Jafo....IF that's an insinuation....I appreciate having been placed in the higher, rather than the lower bracket.

Maybe XP is idiot proof but the bugs in the OS are a different story.

I remember a case from several years ago where a guy broke into a house to rob it. As he was leaving the premises he tripped over a child's toy, which resulted in him falling on a glass coffee table and receiving a very sever cut to his thigh. He eventually had to call 911 for medical aid and was arrested. He sued the owner of the house for medical expenses and damages AND WON!!!

For those of you that live in other countries, does this kind of frivolous lawsuit thing happen in your countries, or is the United States a unique place when it comes to this kind of idiocy???

Those kind of legal stupidities only exist in the US fortunately.

Did you hear about the woman in Philadelphia, who sued a restaurant. She sued them because she fell and broke her coccyx on a beverage that had been spilled on the floor. She won $113,500. I wonder if it was brought up that she's the one who did it. She had just thrown the beverage at her boyfriend 30 seconds before hand during a fight.

Sorry to disagree, Fuzzy, but they exist very much here in Australia..unfortunately.

Sadly, since lil Johnny got in bed with George W, we have abandoned the Westminster system for a crock of particularly bad ideas emanating from the U.S, legal system, if you can call it that....what with all their plea bargaining, frivolous and nefarious lawsuits, theatrics and the 'gloved one' walking free.

Recently in Melbourne, a man armed with a machette broke into a house, only to find its occupants still up and watching TV in the dark. He threatened them with the weapon....was rendered unconscious with a basball bat in self defence...later sued the home owner for injuries sustained, pain and suffering, etc....and won the case.

Worse still, my wife and I were threatened with criminal charges for trying to protect our 15 yo daughter from circumstances that are not in her better interests.
We don't have a legal system here in OZ anymore....we have a saystem of court rooms where government can revenue raise, impose its bureaucratic will upon the innocent and unsuspecting....a system of court rooms that are playgrounds for lawyers who seek to line their pockets from the poor unfortunates who find themselves on the wrong side of a nefarious suit/charge.
The real criminals get it quite easy in comparison, what with free legal aid and the manipulation of the criminal justice system. How ridiculous is this...a self confessed rapist of a 16 year old girl was sentenced only to 3 years probation and 100 hours of community service....within 2 weeks he re-offended yet was sentenced to just home detention. Yet an acquaintance of mine got 21 days jail because he'd forgotten to pay a couple of speeding fines.

Go figure.
